Back to Basics

Back to Basics

Funny enough, fashion is a constant work in progress. Most days, I grab whatever is wrinkle free (or can easily become wrinkle free with a few minutes in the dryer) and clean. My life is fast paced. Some days I really have to dig deep into my closet because I haven’t had time to wash a load of clothes in a week. Don’t judge me, you’ve probably done it too. We’ve all been there. That’s when having a well-crafted closet comes in handy. Over a period of time, I’ve collected pieces that make it easy to reach in and get dressed. It can be easier for some than others, but we are here to help!

I am a firm believer in building your wardrobe. It doesn’t happen overnight. Sprinkle in a few statement pieces plus the classics and you’ll be well on your way to a functional closet filled with outfits that you’ll be able to wear over and over again in many different ways.

Learn your style and stay true to yourself. What works for you may not work for the next pretty lady in line at the grocery store. I’ve expressed it many times – I love fringe. Heck I own two pairs of fringe boots alone. But because of my obsession with fringe, I don’t expect you to have heart palpitations over fringe boots like I do. I don’t like to wear printed leggings – they make me feel insecure about my legs. We all have our things.

Let’s start with the basics. The best thing about the “basics” is that you’ll acquire these over time but if you see one while you’re out and about, make sure you scoop it up because finding the perfect piece is often a rarity! What do I consider classics? I think among the lines of Audrey Hepburn…Think little black dress that’s perfect for any occasion, white oxford, and a pair of denim that hugs you in all of the right places without rips or fading. You want these items to be quick and easy to mix and match with almost anything.

Here are some of my favorites that we’ve had in store lately that can help you build your closet up:

The perfect black dress! Easily interchangeable between seasons, great for a work occasion, or even for a night out – you simply cannot go wrong with a black dress. Add accessories depending on the occasion.

Layer it up! A simple piece but one that can be worn in many, many ways! I love a classic, crisp white button down under a vest, paired tucked in a pencil skirt or with your favorite pair of cuffed jeans with your hair up in a bun. Clean and simple – a timeless statement all on its own. If you’re like me and need a bib as a necklace on the daily, opt for a chambray button down instead.

One of our signature brands, Level 99, never goes out of style. Especially in this gorgeous dark wash.

A southern staple: leather boots that form to your foot that you’ll love for years to come. These boots were made for walking, dancing, and so much more!

Lastly, here’s a twist: I love a good floral dress. I personally have many. But I love the simplicity of wearing a floral dress. There is something so sweet, easy and they happen to easily camouflage my leftovers from lunch that sometimes fall out of the hole in my mouth. They’re a wonderful go-to dress that doesn’t require any thought other than, what shoes do I pair with this?
